VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO) has, from this year, become a degree-awarding university for the prestigious pan-European master’s programme EUMaster4HPC, thanks to cooperation between its Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center.
The international master’s programme EUMaster4HPC has been running since 2022, when Czech students were first given the opportunity to obtain a double degree from two partner universities out of a total of eight awarding European universities. Its fourth cohort of students began their studies in September 2025, and the fifth intake is scheduled to start in September 2026.
IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center has contributed to the implementation and dissemination of the programme of the same name, the definition of study plans including specialisations and teaching materials, as well as the organisation of training activities and the presentation of student achievements.
A new opportunity is now opening for Czech and international students to obtain a double degree, with one of the degrees now able to be awarded by VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
“As a degree-awarding university, we can offer students a unique opportunity to combine the theoretical foundations of computer science with hands-on experience and skills in supercomputing and quantum computing, directly under the guidance of experts from IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center,” says Tomáš Kozubek, project coordinator for VSB-TUO. “At the same time, the programme attracts talented students from abroad, who can study specialisations in AI and quantum computing here with us.”
The EUMaster4HPC programme is part of the broader strategy of EuroHPC Joint Undertaking to develop key skills in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing. Demand for qualified experts continues to rise amid the rapid development of AI and quantum technologies, while current capacity is not sufficient to meet it. The European Commission is addressing this by supporting the continued development of the EUMaster4HPC master’s programme.
VSB – Technical University of Ostrava has become, in 2026, a degree-awarding university for a programme coordinated by the University of Luxembourg, involving several other European universities, including partners from Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
What the programme offers Czech students
Students who are successfully admitted to the EUMaster4HPC are exempt from tuition fees at partner universities and take part in additional programme activities such as workshops, summer schools, and internship opportunities.
During the first year, they study at a partner university abroad, and in the second year they can continue at VSB-TUO in the Computer Science programme, with specialisations in artificial intelligence or quantum informatics.
What the programme offers international students
At VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, students can spend either the first or the second year of their studies in the Computer Science programme at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science VSB-TUO, taught in English.
If they choose to complete their second year at VSB-TUO, they can specialise in artificial intelligence or quantum informatics.
