Supercomputers, a quantum computer, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, robot football and the search for new antiviral drugs. On Friday 25 September, IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, joined Researchers' Night and welcomed nearly 800 visitors in a single evening.

From 5 pm to 10 pm, visitors had the opportunity to explore areas that are not normally open to the public, see the centre’s supercomputers and VLQ quantum computer, and try out a range of interactive activities. The programme was designed for both children and adults and included talks and workshops on artificial intelligence and quantum technologies.

Visitors could discover how science and advanced computing technologies are helping to tackle real-world challenges. They learned more about e-INFRA CZ, the Czech national research e-infrastructure, became molecular detectives searching for new antiviral drugs using supercomputer simulations, and used artificial intelligence to bring their own drawings to life. They could also find out how AI can help recognise retinal images or try creating a professional product photograph using a mobile phone.

Other activities showed how everyday data can be turned into useful digital records and why accurate recording and sharing of research data is so important. The programme also featured robot football, a virtual journey through space, demonstrations of supercomputer applications and activities exploring the world of quantum technologies.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you again next year at Researchers' Night 2027!
