The 40th anniversary edition of Europe’s leading supercomputing conference – ISC High Performance (ISC) – will take place from 10 to 13 June in Hamburg, Germany. As ever, ISC will be a global hub for knowledge exchange, innovation and collaboration – not only in high-performance computing (HPC), but also in artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing.
Supercomputers have come a long way in the last 50 years – from the megaflop era of the 1970s to today’s exascale machines. They help scientists, engineers, and businesses tackle ever more complex problems. Now, with AI developing at an even faster pace, it remains fundamentally dependent on the computational power of HPC. And while quantum computing introduces an entirely new paradigm, the fusion of HPC, AI, and quantum approaches promises to revolutionise computation and data analysis.
Every year, ISC brings together users of supercomputers and the organisations that run them, vendors, and specialists in machine learning and quantum technologies.
IT4Innovations in the ISC 2025 conference programme:
João Barbosa from the Infrastructure Research Lab will present two international projects:
→ EPICURE: Unlocking European-level HPC Support – Tuesday 10 June (3:10 PM to 3:30 PM, EuroHPC JU booth J30, exhibition hall)
→ Poster: “SPACE CoE mission: Redesign Scalable Parallel Astrophysical Codes for Exascale” – Tuesday 10 – Thursday 12 June (Foyer D–G)
João will also speak at a workshop on the readiness of HPC applications for extreme scaling, discussing how to adapt computing software to a new generation of heterogeneous exascale systems:
→ 2nd Workshop on Readiness of HPC Extreme-Scaling Applications – Friday 13 June (2 PM to 6 PM, Hall X10)
Khyati Sethia will present research on using deep learning to analyse scanning electron microscope images of aluminide diffusion coatings deposited on steel via the slurry route. The models, trained on the Karolina supercomputer, significantly accelerate data processing:
→ Women in HPC Posters on Display: "Deep Learning Approaches for Scanning Electron Microscope Image Analysis of Slurry Coatings" – Wednesday 11 June (2:15 PM to 4:15 PM, Foyer D–G). You can catch her presenting the research poster at the Women in HPC Poster Pitch on Wednesday 11 June (1 PM to 1:30 PM, Hall E).
Khyati will also take part in the Women in HPC Tech Talks at the ISC25 Exhibitor Gala, delivering a lightning talk as a WHPC Travel Fellow, on Tuesday 10 June (7:30 PM to 7:45 PM, Solution Forum, Exhibitor Hall).
Jiří Tomčala from the Quantum Computing Lab will showcase how quantum machine learning can be used for gender recognition from facial images, specifically through a hybrid neural network combining classical and quantum computational layers:
→ Poster: “Face Gender Recognition Using Hybrid Quantum Machine Learning” – Tuesday 10 – Thursday 12 June (Foyer D–G).
You can catch him presenting the research poster at the Research Poster Pitch & Awarding on Wednesday 11 June (1:30 PM to 2:15 PM, Hall E).
Karina Pešatová, Head of Training and Education, will join a panel discussion as an invited speaker:
→ 40 Years of ISC: Reflecting on the Past, Shaping the Future – Tuesday 10 June (5:20 PM to 6:35 PM, Hall 4)
Karina will introduce the Central European Chapter of Women in HPC in the Women in HPC Tech Talks, on Tuesday 10 June (7 PM, Solution Forum, Exhibitor Hall).
She is also co-organiser of two Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) sessions:
→ Super(computing)heroes – Wednesday 11 June (10:15–11:15, Hall E)
→ Navigating the HPC Training Landscape in Europe: Current State and Future Developments – Thursday 12 June (9 to 10 AM, Hall E)
Together with Lucie Kavka, she is co-organising a BoF session titled:
→ HPC and You v5.0 – A Student BoF on Enjoying Career and Community in HPC – Thursday 12 June (1 PM to 2 PM, Hall G1)
Lucie Kavka, also from Training and Education, will present innovative teaching approaches from the Superheroes4Science project. This initiative introduces the world of supercomputing to broader audiences through games, comics, workshops, and interactive activities:
→ Women in HPC Posters on Display: "Engaging Audiences with HPC Through Innovative Teaching" – Wednesday 11 June (2:15 PM to 4:15 PM, Foyer D–G). You can catch her presenting the poster at the Women in HPC Poster Pitch on Wednesday 11 June (1 PM to 1:30 PM, Hall E).
More than 160 exhibitors will participate in the ISC exhibition this year, and IT4Innovations will be among them at booth J22. Visitors can learn about our supercomputers, the VLQ quantum computer, and the projects we are involved in. There will also be a competition with a prize from the EPICURE project, which supports users of EuroHPC supercomputers by delivering top-tier solutions based on the extensive experience of all project partners.
