The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) enables researchers, institutions and companies across Europe to use cutting-edge supercomputers for science and innovation.

Through a range of access modes, applicants can choose the level of computational resources that best matches the stage of their project – from initial testing to large-scale resources for leading-edge projects.

Via its calls, EuroHPC provides access to a full fleet of high-performance European supercomputers, including LUMI, Leonardo, Jupiter, MeluXina and Deucalion. A complete list is available here.

EuroHPC JU access modes

EuroHPC JU offers several access routes, each designed to support projects at different stages — from first experiments to breakthrough, large-scale research:

  • Benchmark Access – for testing application performance and behaviour on specific systems
  • Development Access – smaller allocations for development, debugging and code optimisation
  • Regular Access – larger-scale computational projects, both scientific and commercial
  • Extreme Scale Access – high-impact, highly demanding projects requiring massive computing resources
  • AI for Science and Collaborative Projects – for AI-driven initiatives from researchers, industry and the public sector, funded through EU programmes
  • AI for Industrial Innovation: Playground, Fast Lane, Lage Scale Access – tailored for SMEs and start-ups looking to innovate with AI
ACCESS MODE   Application deadlineS Allocation period and timelines
Benchmark Access   The first day of every month 3 months; decision within 3 weeks of application submission
Development Access   The first day of every month 12 months; decision within 3 weeks of application submission
AI for Science and Collaborative projects

27 February; 30 April; 30 June;

31 August; 30 October; 11 December

6 months; decision within 1 month of the application deadline
Regular Access   30 March; 4 September 12 months; decision within 4 months of the application deadline
Extreme Scale Access   4 May; 19 October 12 months; decision within 6 months of the application deadline

* Note: Unlike the public grant calls of IT4Innovations, EuroHPC JU calls always close at 10:00 on the specified deadline.

Support for EuroHPC applicants and allocation holders

Applicants can take advantage of expert support through the EPICURE project, which helps with:

  • code optimisation and scaling
  • application performance profiling
  • efficient use of HPC infrastructure

Support is provided free of charge: https://epicure-hpc.eu/support-services/

Find out more at the 12 May webinar From Code to Scale: EPICURE’s Services, Stories, and Training for EuroHPC Users, where João Barbosa from IT4Innovations will present EPICURE services – from code optimisation, profiling and scaling across European supercomputers to real-world use cases and the European HPC Application Portal.
