AI is one of the most discussed topics nowadays. Therefore we are glad that experts from leading European research institutions have accepted our invitations and will give talks on AI and simulation-based engineering. Our aim is to bring together international specialists in AI and simulations with other professionals to identify common interests and discuss potential collaborations.

ANNOTATION

Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technologies are infiltrating more and more disciplines in science and industrial sectors. They are the ideal tool to automate or predict processes, analyse huge amounts of data, or reason from existing knowledge. Many of these technologies have already made their way into people’s everyday lives, helping them to work efficiently on otherwise tedious or unsolvable problems. The training of accurate AI methods is strongly interlinked with computational power, with many of them already demanding high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructures to process huge amounts of training data.

The EuroCC National Competence Centres (NCCs) combine their knowledge of AI and HPC and make it available to their national scientific and industrial communities. They thereby accelerate knowledge transfer and strengthen European economic and scientific competitiveness. In compliment, the European Centre of Excellence in Exascale Computing “Research on AI- and Simulation-Based Engineering at Exascale” (CoE RAISE) performs cutting-edge research bringing AI and next-generation HPC architectures together. These developments are performed along representative and compute-demanding applications. The two projects have the potential to mutually extend their capabilities to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI and HPC research, and the application of novel and scalable methods in further scientific disciplines and industries.

This workshop brings together the experts of the NCCs of the Czech Republic, Germany, Iceland, Cyprus, and Greece with those of CoE RAISE to identify common scientific interests and, even more importantly, to discuss prospective end-to-end collaborations including research, national HPC nodes, and end-users from science and industry.
