IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center has launched a new central storage system called ARCHIVE, which is designed for the long-term, secure archiving of scientific data. With a capacity of over 10 petabytes (PB) and built on Nodeum and Quantum Scalar i6 technologies, ARCHIVE complements the centre’s existing infrastructure.

At VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, IT4Innovations has put ARCHIVE into operation as central storage for the long-term storing of research outputs. The system ensures the safe and efficient storage of large volumes of data and expands the centre’s current storage capacity.

The ARCHIVE storage primarily serves members of EL 3 – Research in the Field of Digitalisation and Energy Transformation, part of the REFRESH project (Research Excellence for Region Sustainability and High-Tech Industries). Its specific uses include storing data related to improving reliability, modelling resilience, and optimising energy systems, including renewable energy sources, hydrogen production, the use of geothermal systems for extracting and storing thermal energy, and other applications of digital technologies in the energy sector. Thanks to partial co-financing from IT4Innovations’ own resources, it is also available to researchers from IT4Innovations.

ARCHIVE is built on Nodeum and Quantum Scalar i6 technologies:

  • Nodeum is software for managing unstructured data, specifically designed for data transfer, migration, search, and validation. It offers a Restful API, a web-based graphical user interface, and an SSH interface.

  • Quantum Scalar i6 is a modular tape library that facilitates data management and monitoring. It provides users with a user-friendly console for performance monitoring and system notifications. The library has a total capacity of 10.35 PB.
The solution also includes NVMe disk storage with a capacity of 46 TB.

The new data storage was purchased with financial support from the European Union as part of the REFRESH project – Research Excellence For REgion Sustainability and High-tech Industries, reg. no. CZ.10.03.01/00/22_003/0000048, through the Just Transition Operational Programme.
