Europe's biggest supercomputing conference, ISC 2023, took place in Hamburg. IT4Innovations was one of the exhibitors and presented the Ostrava Supercomputing Centre and its activities at its stand.

The history of the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) dates back to 1986. IT4Innovations was present at the ISC in Leipzig for the first time in 2014. IT4Innovations has been part of the event every year since then. The European HPC community continues to expand with the development of supercomputers and supercomputing. It now includes machine learning, data analytics, and quantum computing experts.

This year's ISC took place from the 21st to the 25th of May in Hamburg, Germany, and was attended by 3,100 visitors. The conference, with presentations and panel discussions, is traditionally complemented by an exhibition, Europe's largest and most significant on HPC and quantum computing, which this year featured more than 147 institutions and companies from around the world. IT4Innovations had its booth to present its activities, the international projects it is involved in, and the services of the National Competence Centre for HPC. Many visitors also took part in our raffles with the OpenWebSearch.EU and EXA4MIND projects. Six lucky visitors were awarded nice prizes.

The TOP500 list of the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world, which is now in its 61st edition, was updated on the conference occasion. Karolina remains in the top 100, at 95th place. For three consecutive editions of the list, LUMI has been ranked number one in Europe and number three in the world. Czech scientists also have access to this supercomputer thanks to IT4Innovations' membership in the LUMI consortium.

Frontier in the USA is still the world's only exascale supercomputer (with a theoretical performance of 1,679 PFlop/s). The Japanese Fugaku (537 PFlop/s) is in second place.

The Green500 ranking, which ranks supercomputers in terms of energy efficiency, has also been announced. Karolina is now in 24th place, and LUMI is in 7th place.
