In January 2018 the Czech Republic joined the EuroHPC initiative, becoming its 14th member. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center and the European Commission, organized a workshop on the EuroHPC initiative on 16 May 2018. The workshop took place at the Technology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The aim of the workshop was to enable the research community and the business community of the Czech Republic to actively engage in debates about how to implement the EuroHPC initiative. The current direction of the EuroHPC Initiative was presented by Leonardo Flores, the representative of the European Commission (DG CONNECT) from the Directorate for Digital Excellence and Science Infrastructure. The workshop featured contributions from public and private sector representatives, both from the perspective of potential engagement in the development of pre-exascale and exascale HPC technologies at the pan-European level, as well as from the perspective of potential users of these computing systems. Presentations of all workshop participants are available on the MEYS website. More information on the EuroHPC initiative can be found in the article The Czech Republic has joined the European Union‘s EuroHPC initiative, the objective of which is to build new top European supercomputers in our Newsletter Q1/2018.
