National supercomputing center IT4Innovations is a partner in the emerging “Competence Center for Molecular Diagnostics and Personalized Medicine”. The center will strengthen and develop a national network of leading institutions in the field of biomarkers and molecular diagnostics. IT4Innovations will guarantee the computational part, in particular the processing of large volumes of data from sequencers, designed for the next generation sequencing (NGS). "In the Czech Republic, the potential of supercomputers in massively parallel sequencing, and generally parallel processing of medical data, is still not sufficiently exploited," explains Martin Palkovič, Managing Director of IT4Innovations. "With the operation of our first supercomputer, we offered, in addition to the specialized know-how in the field of HPC, also a powerful infrastructure," he adds.

The project, led by the Palacky University in Olomouc, has been supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, and competed among 80 proposals, ranking among the 14 % of successful applications.
