The official opening conference of IT4Innovations
The official opening conference of IT4Innovations was held on 29 November 2011. We were very pleased to see more than 500 attendees. The morning session was dedicated to the introduction of the IT4Innovations Project and examples of important supercomputing applications in science and industry. The project was presented by Ivo Vondrák, Director of IT4Innovations and Rector of VŠB –Technical University of Ostrava, and Martin Duda, Strategic Development Director of IT4Innovations. Practical supercomputing applications were presented, among others, by Michal V. Marek, Director of CzechGlobe, the Global Change Research Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Scientific Director of EADS Innovation Works Eric Duceau and Kimmo Koski, Managing Director of the Finnish IT centre for science, CSC.
The afternoon session was divided into three thematic sections. IT4Future was designated for those who wanted to learn more about the eight research programmes under IT4Innovations. The section was moderated by the Scientific Director of IT4Innovations, Zdeněk Dostál, and our Research Managers presented their respective research programmes.
The second section, IT4Industry, was a platform where our researchers met with industry representatives who are considering using the capacities of our future supercomputing centre. This section was moderated by Vít Vondrák and the use of supercomputing applications in industry was presented by representatives from Škoda auto a.s., DHI and Hella Autotechnik, s.r.o.
Finally, the Region4Future section was presented by David Sventek (Director of the Moravia Silesia Regional Council Office), David Uhlíř (a representative of the South Moravian Innovation Centre), Tomáš Hruda (the Managing Director of CEITEC) and Jan Kříž (the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports) and covered regional development within the context of science and research support.
